From Port Scanner to Operational Intelligence
2004 — The Beginning
In 2004, our founder took a role as Solutions Architect at a vehicle logistics company in Melbourne. There, he met a CIO who was consulting to the company’s IT division. A professional respect formed — the kind built on competence, not networking. It was the recognition that both people cared about getting the work right, and delivering value.
2007 — First Engagement
Three years later, that CIO asked us to digitise cargo scanning at Australia’s largest independent port terminal operator. It was a single project — a wharf scanning specification. We delivered. Adaptive Consulting was born — not from a business plan, but from a reputation that someone was willing to stake their own credibility on.
2008–2020 — Building Depth
When the CIO moved to Australia’s largest integrated logistics operator, he brought us along. What started as one project became two, then ten, then eighty-plus. Over 12 years, we delivered fleet intelligence systems, national telematics rollouts, safety compliance platforms, B2B integration, mine-to-port visibility, and post-acquisition business integration.
We didn’t just consult — we embedded. We learned how bulk haulage works, how ports operate, how mining supply chains connect pit to ship. We sat in control rooms and trucks, walked warehouses, container yards, and mine sites, and mapped processes that existed only in the heads of operators who’d been doing the job for thirty years. That depth — the kind you can’t get from a slide deck or a vendor demo — became our competitive advantage.
2020 — The CEO Referral
The CIO introduced us to the CEO of Australia’s largest vehicle logistics provider — a business moving 1 million plus vehicles annually. That introduction didn’t come with a pitch deck. It came with: “These people deliver.” Five years later, we’re still there — five projects deep, from transport system deployment to revenue assurance to AI-powered business intelligence. The relationship grew because we earned it, one deliverable at a time.
2024 — AI-for-BI Emerges
Our mining and logistics network generated a referral to a fast-growing WA bulk haulage operator. This time, we brought something new: artificial intelligence applied to operational data. Not theoretical AI. Practical intelligence — fleet cost analysis, maintenance optimisation — using the operational knowledge we’d spent 18 years accumulating. AI-for-BI was born from the intersection of deep domain expertise and modern data capability.
